Jason Wyland is the Technical Training Director and Head Coach of the ’03, ’02, ’01, ’99 AFA Fillies soccer teams.  Jason is also the St. Charles Community College Women’s Head Soccer Coach.  He has over 30 years of soccer experience, 15 of those being as a coach and trainer.

Jason grew up playing in the Scott Gallagher system under Tommy Howe and Mark Dorsey.  His team made the national tournament on 3 different occasions with their best finish being second.  He attended Aquinas-Mercy high school where as a freshman he won a state championship.  A notable name from that team is Kevin Kalish, who Jason credits for instilling his natural passion for teaching the game to others, “The most I’ve ever learned from a coach or player came from playing with Kevin those two seasons at A-M and having the ability to train with Kevin’s Scott Gallagher team for several seasons.”

In the middle of his junior year at A-M, a family move to the St. Charles area led Jason to transfer to Francis Howell North high school where he played his senior year.  For the Knights that season, Jason was selected 1st team All-Conference, All-Metro and All-State.  He also played in the MAC senior All-Star game.  In the summer of this year, his Scott Gallagher team took 2nd in the Snickers National Championships in Phoenix, AZ.  Jason visited and contemplated offers from Tulsa, Louisville, Memphis, UMKC and Alabama-Birmingham.  However, after an impromptu tour of Drury University in Springfield, MO with 5 other Scott Gallagher teammates, they decided as a group to go there together.

At Drury, Jason led the team in scoring as a sophomore and scored a highlight reel bicycle kick at Drake University.   Drury was transitioning to Div.I from Div.II and were on probation which inhibited them from conference affiliation and post season play.  Frustrations with this forced Jason to transfer home to Lindenwood University.  As team captain during his senior year, Jason was selected All-Conference, All-Region, Newcomer of the year and Defensive Player of the Year, helping Lindenwood to their 1st national tournament appearance in Albuquerque, NM.

After college, Jason began coaching at Francis Howell North High School as head JV coach and assistant Varsity for the girls’ teams.  The following fall he was named assistant varsity coach for the boys’ team as well.  During this time, Jason started AFA (American Futbol Association), which was made up of just two girls’ teams.  In 2011, he partnered with Steve Pietrowski, who owned the Fillies Sports Club, and the AFA Fillies soccer club was established.  Jason has helped over 30 AFA Fillies receive college scholarships to continue their soccer development and education.

Jason holds the USSF (United States Soccer Federation) National F, E, D and C licenses as well as the Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America).
